Manually Backup and Restore Registry in Windows Vista

To backup the registry in windows vista, follow these steps,

Step 1. Click Start and type systempropertiesprotection in the Start Search box and press Enter. Note that when you’ll press Enter, you’ll be prompted for the administrator password or confirmation for the action if you are already logged on as an administrator. Enter the password or confirm this action to proeed further.

Step 2.  Windows will now search for all the available disks and all the recent restore points. After this, in the System Properties dialog box, click on the System Protection tab and click Create.

Step 3. Now type the appropriate name for  the system restore point, like “backupBeforeTweaking” etc. and click on Create. Click OK two times.

This is the most reliable way to backup registry in windows vista. Note that if the system restore functionality is turned off, then click to select the local disk and then click Apply and then click Create.

To restore the registry in windows vista, follow these steps,

Step 1. Click Start and type systempropertiesprotection in the Start Search box and press Enter. Again, when you’ll press Enter, you’ll be prompted for the administrator password or confirmation for the action if you are already logged on as an administrator. Enter the password or confirm this action to proeed further.

Step 2. Go to the the System Properties dialog box and click on the on the System Protection tab, then click on System Restore.

Step 3. Select the appropriate restore point. Click Next.

Step 4. Confirm the restore point that you have selected and then click Finish System restore. This will restore the selected Windows Vista configuration. The computer will then start automatically. After you log in to the computer, the System Restore confirmation page will appears, click OK to finalize the restore process.
