Now You Can Use Any Bank’s ATM Without Any Charges

If you are in India, you can use any ATM to withdraw money and to check account balance for free. It doesn’t matter if the bank that issued your ATM card is different.

No, this is not an April fool’s prank. Earlier this year RBI forced banks not to charge more than Rs. 20 for ATM transactions of different banks. But from April 1st 2009, all the transactions from ATM will be free. You can read the RBI’s official notification here. According to the notification, banks cannot charge you for the following services,

  • Using own ATMs for any purpose.
  • Using other bank’s ATMs for balance enquiry.
  • Using other bank’s ATMs for cash withdrawals.

If any amount is still charged from your account for ATM transactions from another bank account, you can contact the customer care department of your respective bank. The amount will definitely be rolled back.

A welcome move by RBI, this will definitely save a few bucks :)

Enjoy!

    Please advise, the other banks cannot charge you for using their ATM’s but can your own bank charge you for using non bank branch ATMs?

    Please advise!

    @Michelle Pereira

    I don’t think you are charged for using any ATM these days. But this is true only for India.
