You just installed an app on your iPhone but you don’t like its icon. What to do? Don’t worry, you don’t have to jailbreak the iPhone just to change the default icon of an app. There is an easy way out. Use the free iPhone Explorer.
iPhone Explorer can be used to explore the iOS filesystem and make any changes you like in it. You can use it to change the default app icon of any app. Here’s the procedure,
1. Navigate to,
using the iPhone Explorer.
2. At this path, just rename the icon to your new icon. Remember that it must be a PNG file (114px by 114px, 72 PPI firstname.lastname@example.org, case-sensitive). This is for iPhone 4. For 3G and 3GS version, the new icon should be named icon.png and the size should be 57px by 57px.
Also, there is no need to use an icon with rounded corners. Just use a square icon if you like, and its edges will be rounded automagically by iOS.
3. Then drag the replacement icon to that folder in iPhone Explorer. Now, just reboot your device to see the change.
This trick works fine for all third party apps. But it won’t work for the default apple apps. Unfortunately, there is no way to change icons for the official apps.
